Make MKV lossless backup of Blu-ray movie with all subtitle and audio streams retained

When creating backup of Blu-ray movie, many guys choose to copy m2ts streams from Blu-ray Disc to retain lossless quality and all the audio streams and subtitles. I want to point out that it is not an ideal solution for watching BD movies. In the first place, most media players do not play the .m2ts file type. What’s more, the m2ts streams are usually not in numeral sequence and you have to sort them out before playing back. A better solution has come up with the release of Pavtube ByteCopy software, which lets you have all the BD contents (video, audio and subtitle streams) in one MKV file without degrading the original quality. The software is very flexible for multi-subtitle and audio solutions. You can either have all audios and subtitles or just keep the ones you choose.

Step 2. Click the “Convert” button to start backing up Blu-ray movie to MKV files with all audio tracks and subtitle streams. Pavtube ByteCopy will extract the main movie with all subtitles and audio tracks from disc and packages the contents into MKV container without transcoding to ensure you get lossless movie clips.

Play ripped Blu-ray MKV files in MPlayer with wanted audio and subtitles track



Doubtlessly, MKV container is a better choice for Blu-ray backup. It is possible to make 1:1 copy of Blu-ray movie, and preserve all video streams, audio/subtitles tracks, chapter info, and other meta-information of a Blu-ray disc in a lossless way. Part 1: Process Blu-ray to MKV backup via Pavtube ByteCopy

Step 1: Run Pavtube ByteCopy, and click “DVD/BD DISC” icon to load the source movie.
The program is able to detect the main title in a Blu-ray disc automatically, as well as check the main title by default. If you wanna backup other bonus features into the MKV file, you can tick off the checkbox before any title at will, or you can use “Check All” and “Uncheck All” button to simplify your operation.



Meanwhile, you can click the “Plus” button before a movie title to see the detailed information of source file, including video info, audio info and subtitles info.



Step 2: Specify destination folder
Click “Browse” button to specify where to locate the output MKV file. Note that if you wanna backup Blu-ray to MKV with lossless quality, you need specify a folder that has the same space as the source file.

Step 3: Backup Blu-ray to MKV
Click the big button “Convert MKV” to start backing up Blu-ray to MKV with lossless quality. Pavtube ByteCopy is able to finish Blu-ray backup without quality loss at fast speed - Lossless Blu-ray movie to MKV backup takes only 50-75mins (Single layer Blu-ray Disc/BD-25). Just follow “Tools” > “Audio track” to select your needed audio track for playback from multi-audio tracks packaged in the MKV file.



Step 3: Select wanted subtitles track
Follow “Tools” > “Subtitle track” to choose required subs to display during viewing.



Now you are ready to play bluray in MPlayer with wanted audio and subtitles track freely.

Tips:
1. If you are running a relatively slow PC, you may encounter bad experience when processing MKV playback in MPlayer. In that case, we suggest you try VLC media player to view the MKV files. And you can expect a better performance via VLC.
2. If your Blu-ray movie is encoded with VC-1 codec, we also suggest you use VLC to play the lossless MKV files produced by Pavtube ByteCopy, because MPlayer does not comes with good support for MKV files encoded with VC-1 codec.
