Mac Sony HDR CX100 to iMovie 8 Video Converter –Convert 1080i MTS to MOV

When I look for the question like does iMovie 8 support Sony HDR CX100 AVCHD files, I got numerous negative or positive answers. But after I have a careful observation on Apple web about iMovie 8, I found that my Sony HDR CX100 camcorder AVCHD recordings are compatible with iMovie 8 as long as all the following elements are fulfilled:
1. Mac with an Intel-based Core Duo processor or better
2. Device recognition when connected to a Mac
3. Display of import controls for the device
4. Importing of the video to iMovie.
If one of the listed is missing, you will have difficult in importing and editing Sony HDR CX100 AVCHD files to iMovie 8. Judging from iMovie 8 supported camcorder list, I have not seen my camcorder model of Sony HDR CX100. It means that I can not go there unless I convert your CX100 .mts files to iMovie preferred video format, like MOV.
Via google, I find Brorsoft MTS Converter for Mac is the recommend program to transcode Sony MTS files to MOV for editing in iMovie and Final Cut. And then I downloaded and installed this program which is really impressed with its simple and fast operation. The following I will share this quick guide with everyone:
For the preparation of video converting, please download Brorsoft MTS Converter for Mac and then install it. And then connect your Sony HDR CX100 camcorder to iMac, Macbook or Mac Pro via USB cable.
Step one. Load Sony HDR MTS recordings to Brorsoft MTS Converter for Mac.
Click “Add” button on the top of program main interface and then choose video clips you would like to convert. Batch video files are allowed to import into this best Mac Sony CX100 MTS Converter.
Step two. Choose MOV as the output video format for iMovie.

Import Sony HDR-CX350 MTS Videos to iMovie 08/iMovie 09

The Sony HDR-CX350 is an advanced technology full High Definition camcorder with a 32GB internal memory that produces very high image quality for both video and stills. It records HD videos in MPEG4-AVC/H.264. After transferring the raw AVCHD Videos to computer, they become files with extensions of .mts. I bought one last year and enjoyed it with its super imaging. However, when I tried to load my .mts Videos recorded from my Sony HDR-CX350 using FX mode with 1920x1080i 24Mbps or FH moded with 1920x1080i 16Mbps to iMovie 8, iMovie 8 couldn’t read them. Even after upgrading to iMovie 09, it still failed to import them.

After surfing on the net, I finally found a solution to import my Sony HDR-CX350 mts videos to iMovie 09 even iMovie 08. At first, I convert the mts videos to Quicktime MOV with Brorsoft Mac MTS Converter and then import them to iMovie 09 without any problem.

Following is the detailed guide about how to convert Sony HDR-CX350 MTS to MOV for further editing with iMovie 08 or iMovie 09.

Step 1. Add Sony MTS video to AVCHD MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac.
After transferring .mts files from Sony HDR-CX350 memory card to iMac Apple hard drive, run Brorsoft MAC HDR MTS Converter and click the "Add" button to load the 1080i .mts videos. You may also import the AVCHD files with drag and drop.

Step 2. Choose MOV format.

Solved the Quality Problem for Stitching Together Sony CX700V MTS files to SageTV
Stitch/Stream Together Sony CX700V AVCHD MTS Raw Footage to SageTV

I have been filing away .mts files from my HD Sony CX700V camcorder since last month... I am now trying to get these into a viewable format so that I can stream them in the highest possible resolution to TVs using SageTV media extenders (can stream just about anything). I would just like to Stitch together related .mts files for SageTV. I'm not concerned with being able to burn to any sort of removable format at this time.

Here's what I am running into. I have been able to find a way to do this with both Roxio 10 (VideoWave) and FCP. Both seem to provide the functional result that I am looking for. However, the video quality is not nearly as rich as when I play the native .mts files individually. Am I doing something wrong with my settings or is this to be expected due to the rendering and compression? Is there a way to create a single file comprised of multiple .mts files without loss in quality?


Since SageTV allows to stream (cat5 or wireless) just about AVCHD at full 1080P to their HD300 boxes which you may have attached to several HD TVs in your house, so what you need is a powerful and lossless MTS joiner for Joining/Streaming Sony MTS files to SageTV. Wrong ... VZW in the NY Area on a T-bolt with LTE Running Speed ??test results collected from about 46 Mbit / s to 15 Mbit / s UP ... The T = Bolt is fast ... Too bad the battery is rubbish  vob to mkv converter I don't trust anything but Cydia after Rock screwed my old iPhone about a year ago.

MTS format is a high-definition MPEG, AVC, H.264 transport stream video file format which commonly used by HD camcorders such as Sony, Canon, Panasonic.

.MTS files are used primarily with Sony hardware. Camcorders make use of MTS in the form of AVCHD, a recording format made specifically for camcorders. Some camcorder models from Canon also use MTS files. These files are also present on Blu-ray disc compilations, therefore they are capable of storing quite a large amount of information and data tracks.

Are you still looking for an easy-to-use AVCHD joiner? Some converter would provide .mts or .m2ts output with decoding and encoding. However, the compression progress will take a long time. The fastest way to merge and join AVCHD files into a single AVCHD file would be the one that does not require recompression.
